Move Your Story Forward

Today in my yoga practice I felt like a race car, sitting on blocks, engine racing, wheels spinning furiously...yet I sit. Thoughts of all the things I want to do racing around in my head:

I want to bring yoga to the underserved communities in Houston.
(I need to go to the rec-centers in the Five Wards.)
I want to teach more classes in my local community.
(I need to make new flyers.)
I want to teach youth outreach classes.
(I need to email that youth director.)
It is my dream to join all communities, all races, all people (okay, and animals too) through yoga.

And here I sit. One more breathing exercise. One more pose. I need to get my foundation set for the day. I will carry this peaceful feeling with me and more mindfully handle anything that comes my way today....(engine revving, wheels spinning)

I was taught in screenwriting, you must ask yourself of every scene, does this move the story forward, or does it serve no purpose?

Your life is your movie. You are the main character, you are the screenwriter, and you decide the plot.
Does each scene move your story forward? Or does it serve no purpose?

That is why I love the Off The Mat, Into The World foundation. Even just the name reminds me to get out there and be of use. DO something. OUT THERE.

Sitting and doing the work within, on the mat...yoga postures, breathing, meditation, prayer...is the essential foundation we all need to carry us through our outer work. Then we need to know when to just get out there and move our story forward!

I know when the blocks are removed and my wheels hit the ground, I will screech into jet-propelled motion, speeding ahead full-throttle. I just hope I haven't burned up all of my fuel before I had a chance to get in the race.

I am going to the county clerk's office to register the DBA for my new yoga name now! I will keep you posted ;)
